Dance for AGES 11-17

BALLET

A ballet class especially designed for the teen dancer with beginner to experienced levels available. Creative teaching ideas with an emphasis on proper alignment, co-ordination, athleticism, ballet terminology and articulation of major muscle groups will be developed. We recommend ballet students to take a Paula Morgan Technique class (See Adult Class descriptions for more).

JAZZ

Jazz classes designed for the teen dancers. Jazz has become one of the most popular styles of dance over the last few years. Jazz showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality. Dancers will work on technique.  Energetic & Fun with great music, this is a fast paced class.  To excel at jazz, a ballet class is recommended.

TAP

The rhythmic sound of tap for tap enthusiasts. These classes will work on floor progressions and choreography all following the A.D.A.P.T. syllabus. Learning the fundamentals of tap dance, rhythms, timing.  These classes are designed for the teen dancers with beginner to experienced levels & examinations available.

LYRICAL

In this blend of Jazz and Ballet technique, dancers employ movement to express the emotion in a piece of music. Ballet is highly recommended to help in the dance movements of a lyrical class.

HIP HOP

This popular, urban-based dance form is usually performed to Hip-Hop or R&B music. Dancers are introduced to the many different forms of Hip Hop throughout the year, with new choreography taught every week. These classes are designed for teen dancers.

CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance is mainly jazz based but can be performed to many different styles of music.
